The Venue presents “Native American Culture and Arts”
On Tuesday, February 19th, at 5:30pm, The Venue will host a presentation by Dr. Brian Gilley, Director of the First Nations Educational and Cultural Center (FNECC) at Indiana University. Dr. Gilley, a Native American, holds a PhD in Socio-Cultural Anthropology, and is an Associate Professor of Anthropology as well as Director of First Nations Center.
American Indian art and culture is an expression of those communities’ values. In the public perception there is a great deal of misunderstanding as to what is “authentic” Indian art and culture. Dr. Gilley will explore the ways Indians creatively engage the historic foundations of their artistic expression, as well as how they are influenced and informed by contemporary society. His presentation promises to be informative, entertaining and interactive.
The Venue will provide refreshments for the occasion. Our complete collection of fine art and gifts will also be on display for viewing and purchase. Free parking will be available in the lot at Fourth and Grant.
