The Bloomington Indiana Scholastic Chess Club is a non-profit group dedicated to teaching children how to play chess. The club is open to children grades K - 12. The Monroe County LIbrary Chapter of the club meets at the Monroe County Public Library on the second and fourth Sunday of each month from 1:30 to 3:30pm. During meetings children receive one on one instruction with Steve Volan, chess instructor from IU. When they are not receiving instruction they are playing amongst themselves under the guidance of volunteer parent organizers. If you think your child may be intersted in playing chess, we encourage you to stop by the library and attend a meeting once or twice before actually joining.
