Experimental Artist’s Group Art Exhibit

BLOOMINGTON, IN (January 30, 2013)
Meadowood Retirement Community a leading provider of independent living options for those 55+ announces a gallery opening and art exhibit.

Friday, February 8, 2013 • 4:30 TO 6:00PM

Meadowood Retirement community will be hosting an art reception for The Experimental Artist’s Group on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 4:30 to 6:00 pm in Meadowood’s Art Gallery located in our lower level. Light refreshments will be served. The exhibit will remain on display until Friday, February28, 2013. Normal gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The Experimental Artists group was the brainchild of painter and art instruction book author Sue St. John. Sue formed the original group in 2000 to share techniques, materials, and ideas and to lend mutual support in the challenging process of creating our art. The group first met in Nashville/Brown County for several years then moved their twice monthly meetings to Bloomington a few years ago. Sue has since moved away from the area but still comes back to offer occasional workshops. Her books can be found on Amazon or her website www.suestjohn.com.

Experimental art is a new process of discovery each time we start a painting. The unstructured development of the painting comes from the deep reservoir of the artist’s experience wedded to the characteristics of the medium she employs, whether watercolor, inks, acrylics, or a mix of medias, on the type of surface, hard and smooth, rough and textured, or soft and absorbent. An experimental artist’s best guides are her inspiration and her ability to go with the flow or, as we often call it, listening to the painting telling us what it wants to be!

Experimental Artists exhibiting at Meadowood Gallery through the month of February are: Paula Bates, Jodi Estell, Deb Garrettson, Cathy Korinek, Rose McCay, and Carolyn Richard. Of those artists only Rose McCay is an original member.
