Singers and listeners are welcome to a session of a cappella singing in a tradition that has been going on for 200 years in this country and since 1837 in Indiana.Singers sit in a hollow square.A leader chooses a song to sing by calling page number from the tune book. The Sacred Harp. The leader stands in the center and leads by moving hand and arm up and down.First the parts are sung in shapes:Fa,Sol,La and Mi,then one or more verses are sung.People take turns choosing tunes that have been composed by early American composers. Many of the verses are from English hymnists. New tunes and verses by contemporaries are also in the reportoire. We meet on second and fourth Sunday afternoons from 2:00pm til 4:00.This group hosts an all day singing on the 4th Saturday in October with an all day singing in Paoli on the following day. There are 4 all day singings in Paoli on Saturdays. We co-host, with a central Illinois group, an all day singing in Terre Haute in March.Singers from around Indiana, from surrounding states and the South join here for a fine time of hearty singing. There's fellowship around a generous miday potluck.More info:www.bloomingtonsacredharp.org and fasola.org
