Dr. Rob Shumaker, Vice President of Life Sciences at the Indianapolis Zoo, will speak on “Are Chimpanzees the Most Proficient Animal Tool Users?” at Indiana University, Bloomington on Wednesday, December 5. Dr. Shumaker ’s research investigates learning and the acquisition of culture in orangutans and other primates, particularly focusing on tool using behaviors. Dr. Shumaker is active in orangutan conservation initiatives, and he currently serves on the boards of the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation in Indonesia and the Orangutan Conservancy in the US.
This is a public lecture, beginning at 5:30 pm in Jordan Hall (1001 East Third Street), room 124.
