Meet "Finney" Aufder Heyde and her sled dogs, as you discover how they coped with blowing snow and extremely cold temperatures participating in the Alaskan Iditarod. Ms. Heyde, the creator of and first "teacher on the trail," will share her experiences and the technology she used to adapt to the extreme climate during the competition. You'll get to try on gear, pose on her sled and pet her dogs, a Leonberger and a Newfoundland/Great Pyrenees.
Shows are at 11 am and again at 1 pm. Seating is limited. Tickets are $2 per person, plus museum admission, and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the shows.
In addition, the Northern Lights Sled Dog Rescue will have retired sled dogs available in the museum exhibit galleries from 1 to 4 pm. Visitors may pet the big dogs and learn about the characteristics of sled dog breeds and the jobs they do in their native environment.
