With no safety nets, no strings attached, and no inhibitions, Traces will push the human body to its limits in an award-winning, high energy, urban acrobatics routine at the IU Auditorium February 15 and 16.
The Montreal-based troupe Traces fuses jaw-dropping circus-style acrobatics with the current, youthful edge and energy of street performance. Impossibly charming, funny, and multi-talented to the extreme, the seven person cast doesn’t just dance and perform unbelievable tricks; they produce an explosive display of raw emotion and physicality in a warehouse setting. Each member showcases astounding athletic ability but augments the pieces with personal touches and pure vulnerability, allowing the seemingly superhuman performers to actually appear human.
With an unknown catastrophe waiting outside the doors of the warehouse, the audience learns the characters have assembled here to live to the fullest what they believe could be their last moments, hoping to leave nothing unsaid or undone...hoping to leave a lasting mark, their traces, as best they can. These survivors communicate the story of rebuilding through expressive acrobatics, music, and dance.
With jaw-dropping leaps, tumbles, balancing acts, and stunts with bars, the youthful acrobats narrate a story of strength, hope, and friendship. The groundbreaking performance prompted Time to write, “At Cirque you sit in awe. Here you’re on the edge of your seat.”
