The sizzling characters and scandalous trials of "Chicago" will once again “razzle dazzle” the IU Auditorium audience on October 16 and 17.

Set in Prohibition-era Chicago, this tale of murderous greed and showbiz satirizes corruption in the justice system and the celebrity status given to notorious criminals. "Chicago" follows the story of Vaudeville starlet Velma Kelly and spotlight-thirsty Roxie Hart, who murder their lovers and wind up behind bars. Desperate to avoid conviction, Roxie dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.

Featuring hit songs “All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango,” and “We Both Reached for the Gun,” Chicago is nothing short of scandal, violence, greed, or corruption. The musical turned Hollywood with the Academy Award-winning film adaptation in 2002, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger.
Based on Maurine Dallas Watkins’ 1926 play about criminals, Chicago debuted as a musical in 1975, running for nearly 1,000 performances. With a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, Chicago is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording. The national tour is directed by Scott Faris and choreographed by Gary Chryst.

Chicago is a must-see production—all the reviewers agree! Time magazine calls it “A Triumph,” Newsweek raves “Smashing” and Entertainment Weekly sums it up by calling Chicago “Broadway’s Most Electrifying Show.”
