SOLSBERRY ARTIST PUTS NEW TWIST ON LOCAL COLOR

Robin Edmundson, a Solsberry watercolor artist, will have her first solo show from August 4 to September 29 at the Vault at Gallery Mortgage. The exhibit, entitled ‘This is my Indiana’ showcases her recent work celebrating the colorful and unruly nature of rural Indiana. There will be weekly live demonstrations. The opening reception is August 4, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The event is free and the public is invited to come talk to the artist about her work.

Robin Edmundson has spent the vast majority of her life in Indiana, which she loves. After earning a Ph.D. in linguistics and teaching at Indiana University for 26 years, she first turned her creative energy to weaving and dyeing. Robin did an intensive study of color theory, using that knowledge to inform her work as a fiber artist and later as a painter. In 2014, she began to work with watercolor. Her work was quickly accepted into juried exhibitions. This year, as a winner of the Hoosier Women Artists competition, one of her pieces was chosen to hang in the Lt. Governor’s offices.

Dr. Edmundson’s artistic goal is to record rural life in a way to celebrate it. She specializes in using sparks of unusual color in areas of her landscapes. When asked to describe her work, she said, ‘I paint rural life using the colors I dream in.’
